1. Compute the manual cutting time in minutes of a steel plate 4 ft x 8 ft x 2.5cm thick with a hand cutting speed of 3.8 to 4 mm per second, cutting lengthwise.

Solution:

Average cutting speed = 3.8 + 4
                                             2
                                   = 3.9 mm per second

Length = 8 ft =  2438.4 mm

Thus,

Cutting time = ____length_____
                        cutting speed
                   = 2438.4 mm
                         3.9 mm per second
           
                   = 625.23 seconds       answer
