Oxy-acetylene welding

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING PROBLEMS:
1. In an Oxy-acetylene manual welding method, to weld a 3 1/2 ft. long seam in a 0.375 inches thick plate at a consumption rate of 9 cu ft./ft. for oxygen and 7 cu ft./ft for acetylene. Compute for the load combined gas consumption in cu ft.

Solution:

In computing gas consumption;

V=(volume of oxygen + volume of acetylene) * length
   =(9 + 7) * 3.5
V=56 cu ft.      answer
